China State Power (USA) Inc. invited a team of senior restructuring officers from the top utility of China and the world of 2005 - State Grid Corporation of China, and subsidiary companies to visit Canada and United States in early 2005. The team was to update understanding about restructuring and deregulation status of North American utilities, i.e. the operation and regulation of the transmission and distribution enterprises. Fruitful discussion and exchange were held with the regulators, operators, investors, consultants and the academic staff, enabling the delegates obtaining further fundamental understanding on the North American latest experience and practice on utility restructuring and deregulation process. The delegates had met and discussed with senior executives and expertise of California ISO, Southern California Edison, HSBC, Accencure, and attended a lecture at California State University during their stay in the States. The conclusions from this visit would provide constructive findings and recommendations for the ongoing and future corporate restructuring in Chinese utilities nationwide.
